A vehicle for evaluating and communicating ABB Reliability practices and policies, this scenario-based serious game also provides a key tool for training and marketing purposes.
ABB Reliability Services (ABB) approached tracermedia to develop a serious game that would not only entertain and teach current and potential clients, but would also flaunt ABB’s expertise in reliability solutions to a whole new generation of employees. For truly authentic content, tracermedia would need to delve into the subject matter of reliability services in order to implement tactics such as “Plant Initiative Support” and “Change Management Initiatives.” In addition, ABB defined specific outcomes for the game that included generating actionable leads to create viral marketing pieces.
Drawing upon past serious game development, tracermedia created a fun, engaging, and informative single player experience using a variety of 3D characters and environments. The game was developed as a browser-based initiative that would allow ABB to administer and update content through a non-technical interface. tracermedia was able to accomplish this, using Adobe Flash and ActionScript 3 to target Adobe Flash Player 9.
As a member of a failing company, players are taken through a series of dilemmas that require real-life reliability solutions in order to win The ABB Reliability Challenge. ABB Reliability Services remains the real “winner,” now that they can educate and entertain clients and employees with a fresh take on industry solutions.
