A teacher-controlled interactive learning tool that boosts students reading comprehension through physical, earth and life science content, which can be correlated to all 50 state science standards.
The Challenge
SRA partnered with tracermedia to create a helpful and exciting tool for evaluating student reading comprehension. The program would require building thousands of lessons in three areas of science content with both animated demonstration pieces as well as interactive questions and activities. SRA also wanted to provide simple-to-use management tools to give teachers the power to assign specific lessons to each student and to individually evaluate each student’s progress. Additionally, tracer was asked to incorporate a “marketplace” where students could “purchase” items from the points they earn while using Science Labs.
The Solution
tracermedia transformed the existing print material into animated tutorials and adaptive activities by utilizing Adobe Flash. An entirely customizable marketplace was created for the students and included personal avatars with purchasable pets, accessories, games and trivia cards. Administrative tools were created to allow teachers to customize classes, lesson sets and easily evaluate student progress and performance. The use of extensive databases to correlate standards with lesson content gave teachers the ability to keep students on track with school-wide curriculum as well as state-wide expectations.
The Result
A compelling interactive experience for students that differentiates instruction and supports independent learning. Customized learning paths allow students to progress through pretests and posttests to measure their comprehension, while teachers are updated on progress. The system is adaptable and grants teachers freedom and flexibility to introduce the experience into various parts of their curriculum.
